Why do websites need maintenance?

In my earlier days of freelancing, many of my clients and prospects were against the idea of a website maintenance plan. The main reasons were that they didn’t think they needed to spend more, and didn’t believe their website was “big enough” to be compromised.

Why spend ongoing time and attention on maintaining a website? Does it mean it is unsafe to begin with?

Do you need permission to use that font?

Your choice of font can say a lot about who you are and how you do what you do. But there’s a step some often overlook when it comes to fonts.

Permission to use the font commercially. (By the way, I must add here I’m not any kind of lawyer or legal professional.)

Yup. Just because that font file came with your computer or was found for free on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s okay to use it for your flyers, logo or social media graphics to promote your business.

How to get along with a web designer

For as long as I have been working in this industry, I have come across angry and sad tales of business owners who had a terrible experience web designer. I’ve heard the stories many different ways; but essentially it ended up that the business owner didn’t get what they wanted and felt like they were getting ripped off.

It’s no wonder why some may be extra cautious when choosing to hire a professional, and why some may opt to do it themselves.

Just to forewarn: This article is kind of a rant/stream of consciousness piece I really wanted to get out of my system. Though, I hope if you take the time to read this (or at least skim read) you might find something that helps. 🙂
